Absolutely! Lyon did well to draw against Real Madrid and thus qualify for the last eight.

As for Man Utd, the 4-0 win against AC Milan was a WOW and Rooney who again scored 2 goals is in the form of his life.

Yesterday Arsenal also did extremely well to thump Porto 5-0 while Bayern Munich was lucky to qualify at the expense of Florentina.

Next week, we'll see who'll join them in the quarter finals.

According to the lattest news, what Hispania had planned and what they will do is running the free practice sessions of Bahrain and later decide wether take part in the race or not.

Anyway, I don't think the car will be worse than the other dallara/cosworths teams. I don't think Dallara would build a car lacking safety issues. If they are slow, well, that's what blue flags are for.

That's not strange, we know car makers way of doing things is not compatible with racing, all they have in favour is money (sometimes).

However guys, it is the feeling of many drivers that the new teams could pose a safety risk by the lack of their speed. With HRT not having even turned a wheel, it does raise questions about the FIA's thinking as to who they wanted on the grid. You just know if there is some catstrophe, involving one of the new teams, that we will never hear the end of it nor will the FIA!!

Motor racing IS dangerous Van!! I think you are playing it too safe. Let them race for heavens sake. The last accident involved a Brawn (now Mercedes) car. Playing by the same rules, maybe Brawn should have been penalizes; let them race AND Stefan GP as well; like I said, the more the merrier; I want to see a choka full grid!

Not sure how Senna thinks that HRT will be a second faster a lap then Virgin or Lotus when they have not even tested the car. I guess we will find out on Friday!

Not only that, Chandok says the team will score some points during the season. I think they are just creating hype to attract future sponsors.

Anyway, I don't think it would be a disaster to not score a point for a completely new brand team.

We don't know about testng really, Dallara must have some in-house facilities to do some test. I suppose Dallara would not like to embarrass themselves big time in F1, that could compromise their other activities.

I've added predicting ninth and tenth positions, but that's the only change.
I'm open to making a change if it will improve it and welcome any suggestions. I've thought before it could be fairer if instead of four points for a correct prediction and 1 if it is not correct but still in the top ten it would be better if it were say 3 points if 1 position away, 2 points for 2 positions away, etc. But then I think it is good to just keep it simple rather than over-complicating it.

Could not agree with you more Luv the idea of giving points for 9th & 10th positions!

I think there are more great fights possible this year than in recent history. Schumacher's comeback, Alonso in a Ferrari vs Massa (and his comeback, of sorts), Button given an opportunity to prove himself worthy of WDC against Hamilton, Kubica as a #1, the young guns (especially Kobayashi), the new teams, new rules. Can't wait!!!

Michael, this weekend will be your first race after three years. You have prepared yourself very carefully but on the other hand there was only a limited number of testdays allowed. Do you have the feeling your preparation was enough?

I think none of us drivers has, but that is just normal: give us 40 days, we want 80. You always have the feeling you could do more, and a lot of the test days have been strongly handicapped by the weather. It is valuable time you are losing, which would be very important for the development of the car. But all in all I am very happy with our preparation, as our focus was on reliability and internal processes. We worked very efficiently. I am looking very much forward to the start of the season now.

Everybody seems to expect nothing but the title from you. Aren't those expectations too high maybe?

No. I said it quite clear from the beginning: we do not have to - and probably will not - be in the position to win right from the start. It is important to be close and then use the long season to be at the top at the end. It is not the start which is important; it is the finish.

But then less testing is even worse, as you are known to squeeze out all possibilities in testing to improve the car.

Correct, but then the data are so much better quality-wise and you can analyse them on a much better ground nowadays. This helps a lot, it speeds up the development. And then, haven't we seen for example in 2005 that it is not all about testing? We probably did 100.000 km, and what did we achieve? For sure not a lot, if you look back at this year... Compared to this you can work much more purposefully nowadays. I strongly believe we can fight at the top.

How would you think your prospects are for this season?

The car has not been completely at the level of other teams' cars at the end of the tests, true, but the amount of fuel was massively influencing this impression. It seems we were driving more fuel than others most of the time and therefore we look quite good I would say. But than it is hard to judge who played all his cards yet. Our car also has not been at the final configuration - something we had deliberately wanted. We wanted to use the 2 weeks development time between the last test and the race in Bahrain.

There is no refuelling allowed anymore during the races, how will you have to adjust to this?

Saving tyres will be an important factor. You will have less sets of tyres available than last year which makes it harder to do what you need to do for setting up the car perfectly. But driving is always about adapting to new circumstance, and this is one of my strong points. I would say the biggest difference are the tyres. You will have to develop a good feeling for them.

Everybody wants to beat you, are you ready for fighting for the title?

Absolutely, yes. This is what I am here for, and I am confident we can play a role in this fight. If we win it at the end will be a different question, as always in sports. But our entire team is extremely motivated, as am I. The guys have won both titles last year, and now, with Mercedes Power on board, they want to repeat this success. We all want to win. The season will be long and hard, no doubt about that, but I love this fight - it is because of this fight that I came back to Formula 1

I must say that reading that article has me wondering where he got all the money to set-up a team, get a car built/bought and was ready to start the season if given the Ok by the FIA. Makes you wonder when compared to USF1, they could not even get enough personel together to build a single chassis and seemed nowhere close to being ready for testing much less the first race.

I was standing waiting to go down in an elevator in Key West, Florida in 1978 on the fourth floor of a five story building(La Concha Hotel). A guy was standing with his back to the door, talking to his friend. The bell rang, the doors opened, he turned around and stepped in, NO elevator. I will never forget his scream. He hit the bottom with a thud. Terrible. DEAD! I saw it. It happens. Don't try to rationalize it.

Have sympathy for the poor soul that found himself lying on a grungy shaft bottom after a horrible accident, in unbelievable pain.

My point is that why changing a race in a place for one in the middle of nowhere for the starting of the season? IMHO the start of the season should have been in a more glamorous place... (and I don't mean in the way of Monaco )

Under 2 secs sounds like a 'laboratory' time. I can't really see the jacks being lifted, lowered, and pulled out of the way in 2 secs. Without the driver throwing up, that is.

It is a learning race . Full tanks at the first corner on worn tyres for the top ten qualifiers and cold brakes is a new experience for all. The brakes are the same compound as last year and we saw worn brakes then at the end of a race- what now ?

We could well see an old hand like Barrichello come in first. As for Schumacher who knows ? If he is super aggressive he will incur a penalty- stewards are far more strict than when he last raced.

All in all it should be one of the most intriguing races for years

I guess we will have to wait and see what the "Super Diffuser" is all about before we hand the first race over to MS. There are to many drivers for me to predict who will eventually come out on top but of course I would love to see one of the red cars on the top step!

I find it hard to fathom that the car can stop, the crew can change all 4 tyres and the car exit in under 2 seconds. There was a time when just a tyre stop would be like 4 seconds, and that was considered very fast so not sure where they have picked up 2 seconds. I guess we will see!!

The battle between Nico H and Rubens may be close. While Rubens is an old-hand, Nico has done really well in all the different championship leading to F1. And he's also very good in the wet.

Stirling is 80 - he is very very lucky not to have been killed in that accident.

I've just been told by a work colleague that Stirling designed his home in the 70's that allowed him to operate pretty much anything he liked from any room in the house - curtains, cupboards, doors, kettle etc all operable from a remote control. Could something have gone wrong in his auto-house?

OK - the race then: I think we'll see an MS Masterclass with a Pole & Win for Mercedes, but closely followed by Alonso & Hamilton.

Button, Massa & Rosberg will squabble for 4/5/6th places and the Red Bulls will suffer reliability issues which will leave the door open for Williams/Force India/Sauber/Torro Rosso to try to score a couple of points. Kobayashi will provide much needed excitement in the mid-field.

The new teams will drag around at the back 4-5 seconds off the pace and won't feature much, expect when being lapped or when spinning off/breaking down/crashing because something has fallen off the car.

I hope we don't get too many pace car incidents and that everyone obeys/notices blue flags when being lapped.

That's me done, and if I'm right I'll crow about it for the rest of the season, if I've got it wrong, I'll pretend I never wrote this!

I think that what will make more difference than the length of the pitstops themselves will be how smoothly the drivers can drive to and from the pits and how much time they take in the process.

And who was always the best at optomising his in/out laps and pit entry/exit? I think MS may be hard to beat at Pitstops as long as his Mercedes pit crew are up to the job (which they should be as they have years of experience as Tyrrell/BAR/Honda/Brawn etc. And I'm a Button Fan!

I just put mine in, but it is so hard to decide who to leave out - in the end I decided the RedBulls would suffer reliability issues and Schumi/Alonso/Hamilton would take the top three places.

But, it really is just guess work at the moment....

I've added predicting ninth and tenth positions, but that's the only change.

I'm open to making a change if it will improve it and welcome any suggestions. I've thought before it could be fairer if instead of four points for a correct prediction and 1 if it is not correct but still in the top ten it would be better if it were say 3 points if 1 position away, 2 points for 2 positions away, etc. But then I think it is good to just keep it simple rather than over-complicating it.

Just 4 days left to FP1. First season in a lot of time that does not start in Australia. Very bad move IMO, specially if we take into account that it was moved to a place in the middle of nowhere...

IMHO!

Jenson Button v Lewis Hamilton - It'll either be very close (which will upset Lewis) or Lewis will be favoured and Jense will be given the DC/Kova role - not sure who I'd rather see upset!
Mercedes
Michael Schumacher v Nico Rosberg - MSC (poor Nico - this is a poison chalice - even if he was to comprehensively beat Michael, which I doubt he'll even come close to, it'd be put down to Michael's age/lack of sharpness, etc. rather than Nico's ability and being beaten by an old man who’s not raced in however many years may significantly damage his career)
Red Bull
Sebastian Vettel v Mark Webber - Vettel. Webber will have his usual one swallow moment but shouldn't be any real challenge for Seb over the year.
Ferrari
Felipe Massa v Fernando Alonso - Massa could surprise, and I hope he does, but he's the riskier bet.
Williams
Rubens Barrichello v Nico Hulkenberg - Nico may get the most spectacular single result but Rubens' experience will count over the year.
Renault
Robert Kubica v Vitaly Petrov - Kubica.
Force India
Adrian Sutil v Vitantonio Liuzzi - Sutil.
Toro Rosso
Sebastien Buemi v Jaime Alguersuari - Alguersuari - thought there were a few very promising glimpses from him in his debut half season - particularly given that he wasn't able to test. Hope to see some of that potential being realised this year.
Lotus Racing
Jarno Trulli v Heikki Kovalainen - Who the hell cares? (well, other than Mod Red) Neither have race pace, one destroys the race for himself by being unable to stay on track, the other destroys the race for everyone else (including those watching) by being a slow moving barrier across it, both are a waste of a seat.
HRT F1
Bruno Senna v Karun Chandhok – I think Senna will generally be better but suspect championship standings will come down to whoever picks up a stray point.
Sauber
Kamui Kobayashi v Pedro de la Rosa - Kobayashi (will never understand why PdlR deserves this second, third, fourth, whatever it is chance - journeyman at best)
Virgin Racing
Timo Glock v Lucas di Grassi - Glock but di Grassi may start to edge him later in the season

I do agree that Webber is not very consistent. But Webber and Vettel were close last year too, though Vettel came out in front at the end. In a good car, Webber is good enough to finish in top 4.
