Ron Dennis has stated that half of the grid is made up of useless drivers.

I think that is a bit harsh -more like one third but still a high proportion for an elite sport

The car is more important than the driver as LH will find out

I sort of agree with RD. There are a lot of young guys in waiting that given a chance would show many F1 regulars how to do it. But then F1 revolves around dollars, not drivers, and if a driver has the money he'll buy into a team, or his sponsor will. My own very personal view.

I dont think you would get a F1 seat if you were useless.. I dont think its the drivers. I think that if a lot of the drivers had competitive cars a whole lot of them would be doing a lot better.. So I think it is a bit harsh of RD to say that. If the mac was the car it was last season I doubt LH would be a hero like he is this eason.. Just a thought...

I have to admit my ignorance here regarding pay drives Spyker are obviously a pay drive, SA I doubt -as I do not think Davidson has money. TR , are Speed and Liuzzi there because of the money they bring in via sponsorship? Current feeling is they may dump them perhaps mid season, would this be the case if money were involved? Williams have over the years made money by talent spotting and selling their drivers.

BWP the car is of course more important than the driver but I doubt whether any of the backenders could give Alonso a run for his money as LH has manged. Care to name one?

All F1 drivers are useless - unless they get a decent car

Its impossible for us to know who is useless or not, we need to see them in better cars, but F1 has always been like this, theres alot of talented ones then theres good ones then theres the ones who cannot get a car home, which is not always there fault, often it is the car.

Massa was sort of a backender before he came to ferrari and look at him now.. So Put most drivers in a decent car and Im sure they will definately get the business done..

I think that statement should be rephrased as "half of the grid is made up of useless teams" Roll Eyes

I disagree you can tell the good from the bad drivers even if they are in poor cars. Button is a good driver in a poor car and Rubens is no slouch. Speed and Liuzzi look poor performers in a modest car.

Then we have the like of the Ralphs who can be compared with their team mates.

Isn't it amazing how a mid-pack, useless driver like Heidfeld turns into one of the top drivers on the grid when his car improves. Is Kubica better than Rosberg or is it the car? However, isn't it interesting that Renault drops off sharply when FA leaves? How McLaren improves when FA arrives?

Well Ralph has the bigger problem of being compared to his brother. Ralph did have potential but hes kinda missed it and he's on his way down i believe. Speed and luizzi i agree have not shown anything great but clearly theres been some upsetting situations in there camp and there is alot more that can be a problem. We would need to see each driver compete in each car and then take a better conclusion, but to simply be in F1 means you have atleast got some talent or maybe you the lucky one that can find a sponser of some sort. But i think the older drivers need to move on, and let younger ones come in, Barrichello is good but hes over the hill, Coulthard too, seriously they never gonna win any titles or contribute to the excitement of the sport. Mark Webber is boring too no excitement.

If true, it's a stupid statement by Dennis. There are no useless drivers in F1. There are three top drivers and maybe three who shouldn't be there. The rest is very even.

I think if the drivers are said to be useless then we would have seen a lot more driver errors.. I think that the drivers are doing as best a job they can with the cars they have under them...

I guess RD believes that he has always had the cream of the crop of F1 drivers over the years. It entirely depends on having both sides, drivers and car, to be successful in F1 but unfortunately some teams have one or the other!!
