Formula One: Sebastien Bourdais, page 1
What is with the delay in someone signing Bourdais for an F1 drive? He has proved his supreme ability over the past number of years in Champ Car and I believe thoroughly deserves a shot at F1.
STR had an option on him that expired two days ago although he still may find a seat there. If I ran an F1 team (especially a backmarker team) I would have no hesitation in signing him. Is there something I am missing about this driver?
I think the delay for signing Bourdais has something do with; J. Villeneuve, A. Zanardi, Montoya and Da Matta... All Champcar champions but how they managed in F1 is another story..
acutally Villeneuve and Montoya didn't do that badly- but yes the standard of Champcar is pretty low - arguably mediocre F1 guys like Justin Wilson, Timo Glock, Robert Doornbos, Bjorn Wirdheim, Bruno Junquiera became great contenders there, Seb also has been shafted by F1 (as was Junquiera who was outpaced by an inexperienced Jenson Button in contention to the William S 2000 seat)- still better standard than IRL though

Regarding the better than IRL statement. I would agree ONLY that Champ Car is a potential road to F1 while IRL is not. Arguably, the racing, the teams, the drivers are, OVERALL, better in IRL than ChampCar. The major difference is that oval racing is not a natural progression to F1. Even with a few road courses, IRL is primarily an oval series while CC is totally road/street courses. With the arrival of Penske, Ganassi, Rahal, and Andretti-Green, IRL is superior to CC in every way except the road to F1. That's why Bobby Rahal's son, Graham, is in Champ Car and Marco Andretti should be.

Good post DD and right on the money. CC is a way to F1 and IRL is not just because of the courses they run on.

DD if it wasnt for danica the irrelivent racing league wouldnt even exist.
pains me to say this about a french man but the boy will do very well in formula one , one season with Squada shita lot and then he can take the aussie bum seat.

ROY- Where the h#ll have you been?!?!?!? Missed you man. You haven't changed either, you really need to change the prescription on your ChampCar glasses. You KNEW you'd get me to respond, even without the ![]()

I get tired of Villeneuve being lumped in with losers....he was world champion he didn't just do okay! Secondly if Renault hadn't quit f1 and left Williams without a viable engine he might have won a few more championships. I am not suggesting a dynasty like Ferrari but quite likely a couple more championships as Williams Reneault was the class of the field at that time. He left Williams as a result of the pull-0ut of Renault. Did he go for the big bucks.... maybe but who would have thought that Honda couldn't have produced a competitive car and still hasn't. Honda ate up his career as it is doing to Jensen Button. As for your views on Champ Car obviously you are not drivers to make such a remark.... if someone like Mario Andretti were to trash Champ Car it would mean something as he also was a champion there....and F1

Racing is about passing not million dollar parades.
SB should get his chance as he has proven he is faster than the current driver line-up but what is up with him and Doornbos at a recent race? As for the rivalry between CC and IRL, even with all the big teams in IRL they cannot garner a bigger audience than CC and they will never be deemed as real racers as long as they predominantly do circles!!

Two points here Jag:
1. When you say bigger audience, there are many definitions of that, attendance, TV, race day, total event over several days. It's pretty obvious that CC's numbers attending are grossly inflated and usually count all days, thereby counting some attendees two or three times. They are not attracting any sponsors. They have to buy their TV time and their numbers are not good.
2. We have at least one real racer who visits the Forum, Flyer23, see his notes above. After the second comment, you forgot, IMO. There are millions of people who differ with you about ovals being or not being 'real'.
Jag, of course I know where you live, but I've often thought of calling you to see if you have a British accent. Well? That might explain a lot.

Well Dick, I guess I could have included IMHO but I look at the grandstands at IRL races and must admit that there are certainly not enough people to fill most of the seats. As for CC, they draw well at many races but definitely are lacking in the image of having big teams but that in no way takes away from the decent racing that they put on. Whether they are a stepping stone to F1 or not is up to the F1 teams to decide.
P.S. Sorry...no British accent!!
Decent is probably a euphemism. IRL is far more exciting to watch than CC.
