A bit unusual how the major sites are following thye session

MSC has just bettered the lap time set earlier by NR - that's the reason, I guess

These times are pretty meaningless at this stage. The idea is not to be fastest but to develop a basically new car and understand its behaviour ,quirks etc. before Bahrain.

Ferrari.

BMW is just three worlds that appear because it was registered with that name in the entry of teams. Maybe they cannot remove it, I dunno.

Btw, full table of today's times in the afternoon.

It says nothing, The Mac could be full of fuel and the Ferrari empty.

I'm agreed...

However, it seems that towards the end of the session and in all day in general all teams wanted to get nice times...

Pedro/Sauber asking for sponsors and showing people he's a good bet, Massa showing he's OK, Schumacher to not finish below Rosberg, Rosber to not look slower, Buemi to bring hope, etc... Big Grin

Everyone says and perhaps most agree that testing times are pretty much meaningless.

However, if you look back (as far as I remember), the times used to be an indication of how good a car was, and this proved correct in principle during the following season.

Times between team-mates matter, though

There is always a hint of 'sandbagging' - but why would a team not want to put in a max effort in a few laps, at least? Just a couple of seasons back, many were talking that Toyotas were sandbagging. But then it became clear they had a bad car

Different ballpark these days NB.With limited testing feedback is far more important than it used to be. Varying data has to be collected to fed into simulators and CAD/ CFD programmes -which are themselves time limited I believe

How can you settle for a safe third or something, because it’s four points? Jesus, people like that should be accountants, not racing drivers.” Gilles Villeneuve

Even if it was 100% meaningless, testing times at least feed us a bit, off-season gets pretty boring Big Grin

Testing is interesting, that's right. After a long wait to see how things will turn out this season, at least now we get a little idea. Relative speeds don't show us a whole lot, but they at least give us some idea of which teams are likely to be fast at the beginning of the season.
